Turkish, Norwegian and Dutch translation added

Thanks to Abdullah Sahin (TR), Mehmet Ali Boyar (NN) and Luc Prevoo (NL) SiteCake has added three more UI languages: Turkish, Norwegian and Dutch. Version 1.0.39 is released and ready for download. Enjoy.

Three more UI translations

From now on 210 million new users will be able to use SiteCake in their native language. Matus Braxatoris, fellow designer from Slovakia and Armando Gonçalves from Brazil did translation for Slovak and Portuguese (Brazilian Portuguese).

Also, it’s a good occasion to thank Tomáš Wagner for Czech translation, Mauro Galeota for Italian and Евгений Варванин for Russian.

German, French and Danish translation added

Current version of SiteCake is translated to three more languages: German, French and Danish. So many, many thanks to Dominic Werner who did German translation, Thierry Poinot for French and our friend Nikolaj Bomann Mertz from Curomedia.dk for Danish translation.

If you want to change SiteCake language from default English to so far supported: German, French, Danish, Spanish, Slovenian or Serbian check out this tutorial page.

Please help us translate SC to you language. We can’t offer you free licenses (or cupcakes) since we are free CMS now, but you will get good karma plus points and we promise to help you with all your SiteCake related questions and endeavours.

Yes, this is the major change. Starting from today SiteCake will be a free CMS. Starting from tomorrow, we will work on preparing SiteCake for open source. That said, we plan to release SiteCake as a open source CMS by the middle of the year.

SiteCake is free CMS for all but hosting providers or website creation services like GoDaddy, Wix, etc. If you are running a business of that kind and scale then please support us so we can continue the development.

Many times we benefited from the free and open source software and now is our turn to give back. All of the SOPA/PIPA uprising inspired us even more to add our piece of cake to the free and accessible Internet for everybody. If people lack knowledge to operate and update a website, their voice will not be heard. So, with SiteCake we hope to simplify the effort of online publishing. It’s our call and we plan to do it with your help.

Best CMS For Simple Websites – Now In Spanish

After articles at TNW, Genbetadev and wwwhatsnew.com, we got many new users from Spain. Especially kind one helped us translate SiteCake UI in Spanish. So, thank you Marcos Muñiz García for helping us making it easier for Spanish website owners to use our cms platform.

Anyone who want to switch UI language to Spanish should download SiteCake, unpack it and browse:

Making a SiteCake Template From a Simple HTML Page

SiteCake, as a simple cms presents quick fix solution for website updating, easy to use and, which is equally important, easy to setup and integrate with your page. To demonstrate this I created a 4 minute video tutorial in which I follow all steps needed to create a web page running on SiteCake.

1. Download SiteCake from our website
2. Convert your HTML page to SiteCake ready PHP page
3. Add class=”sc-content-[some_id]” to the parts of the webpage you want to edit
4. Upload everything
5. Update SiteCake from free to full version

And everything in just 4 minutes. It can’t be easier than this.

Multi-Language Support Added

From SiteCake 1.0.31 version we have multi-language UI. So far we have added Serbian and Slovenian language. SiteCake will wake up in English by default, but if you happen to need any supported language just go to /sitecake/editor.cfg and change the language. Settings are simple:

# interface language (en, sl, sr) LocaleProxyImpl.interfaceLocale = en

If you need SiteCake in your language and want to volunteer your time to translate the UI, just email us and we will send you text file for translation.

Google Maps Supported

Another must have for small business websites is the map. So we supported Google Maps in SiteCake. It’s the common feature in other simple cms systems too. What we added as a bonus is map resizing and panning in SiteCake edit mode. Other than that, maps are regular SiteCake item and can be managed in the same drag & drop manner.

There are three ways to add a map:

1. drag a map icon from toolbar and paste map embed code

2. drag a map icon from toolbar and paste map URL

3. drag & drop map URL (link) from the Google Maps page

How To Add a Video To Your Website?

It’s easy. Like in any other simple cms, SiteCake lets you add a video to your site by copying and pasting embed code or video URL . We supported two most popular video sharing services: YouTube and Vimeo. It is a good start. If you need embedding videos from other video sharing services please vote in comments of this post for the services you think are worth it.

To be in line with the true drag and drop nature of SiteCake we made it possible to add a video by dragging and dropping video thumbnail from YouTube site. Check the screencast for demonstration.

Moreover, each video can be re-sized dynamically, moved around and deleted in the same way you can are managing images in SiteCake.

Drag and Drop Everything

We believe that website publishing should be simplified to the bone. Website owners should be able to drag and drop various content at the website and the websites need to be smart enough to accept and publish everything with the click of a button. It’s similar to making a collage, cutting and pasting, stitching and gluing. This should just work.

With SiteCake, you will be able to do exactly that. So far we made it possible to add images, slideshows and files to your pages. You can drag an image, from your desktop or file manager, and add it to the website. If you add more than one image SiteCake will make a slideshow of it. And if you want to add a downloadable file, just drag it to the page and SiteCake will make a link, with the name and the length of the file. Just like that.

This is just the beginning. Adding text should also function like this. And same thing for videos.
